Hometown Heroes: Jo V.
At Reliabank, we believe that every community has its own set of hometown heroes. These are the people who work hard behind the scenes to make sure their community thrives. They may not be in the spotlight, but they’re the ones who make a difference in our communities every day.
That’s why Reliabank is proud to recognize the heroes of our communities with the Hometown Hereos award.
This week’s Hometown Hero is Jo Vitek of Watertown, SD.
In both her personal and professional life, Jo has been a role model for doing as much good as possible for as many people as possible. Jo retired as the Chief of Police from the Watertown Police Department after serving in law enforcement for 36 years.
Today she is the president of a non-profit called Divine Providence which aims to help strengthen churches, and provides a program to support children who are victims of sexual abuse. Jo has been a dedicated volunteer in a multitude of groups her entire life, and she exemplifies the statement, “it is better to give than it is to receive.”
Jo feels that it is her calling in life to always help others and make a difference, which she continues to do daily. In her own words, Jo says volunteering has enabled her to become the person God created her to be, and that He does all the heavy lifting. The Watertown community is blessed to have an advocate as passionate as Jo Vitek, and her humility and selflessness are truly inspiring.
